A Proud Welsh Start-up detailing the steps to reduce fuel poverty, and drive progress towards low-carbon homes

A pioneering firm based in Holywell, North Wales, is making waves in the journey toward a greener, fairer future.
Cyd Innovation is at the forefront of scaling up the net zero retrofit sector, with a heartfelt mission to bring large-scale energy improvements to homes across Wales. An ambitious goal, but one deeply rooted in social purpose. At their core: to help eradicate fuel poverty whilst supporting sustainable business growth. Driving the trend towards low-carbon homes
Building a Social Partnership for a Greener Wales
During a recent visit from Hannah Blythyn MS, Cyd Innovation shared how it is fostering a powerful social partnership between the Welsh government, social landlords, and installers. This collaboration is designed to fast-track the delivery of low-carbon homes. These homes are not only environmentally friendly but leverage affordability, ensuring that no household is left behind in the transition to net zero.
A Track Record of Impact and Rapid Growth. Eradicating Fuel Poverty One Home At a Time
To date, Cyd Innovation has supported the transformation of over 5,000 homes across North Wales into energy-efficient dwellings. The firm has seen remarkable growth in the past six months. Driven by the urgent need to address the cost-of-living crisis. Referring to decarbonisation and retrofitting.
With surging energy bills (by 54%) in April: reaching an average of £1,917 per year, Cyd Innovation is stepping up. Fuel poverty is becoming increasingly prevalent with more individuals being unable to adequately heat their homes. The company has outlined plans to scale its services to help deliver at least 50,000 low-carbon homes by 2025.

At Cyd Innovation, we don’t just meet the standard – we set it.
A Virtual Team with Real-World Impact
Cyd Innovation offers a unique virtual energy efficiency team, providing on-demand access to retrofit experts. They also assist social landlords with navigating funding and grant applications, removing barriers and enabling faster, more effective project delivery. Beyond technical support, the company is actively channelling investment into Wales, helping to grow local supply chains, create jobs, and open training opportunities for communities across the region.
A Vision Rooted in Social Value
“ Too many households are struggling with unaffordable energy bills due to poorly insulated homes. This is a challenge that no single organisation can solve alone—it requires strong, socially driven partnerships that can direct investment into Wales and empower local communities.”
Steven Reynolds
Managing Director, Cyd Innovation
He added that the Welsh Government’s target to bring all social housing up to EPC A standard by 2033, at an estimated cost of £5.5 billion demands an overwhelming amount of coordinated, skilled response.
Scaling Up for a Sustainable Future
To meet growing demand, Cyd Innovation is actively recruiting throughout 2022 and beyond, with plans to expand its services across the UK. The company is committed to building the talent pipeline needed to deliver holistic, scalable decarbonisation solutions.
“We’re hearing from many providers that they lack the in-house expertise to manage the complexity of net zero projects,” Steven explained. “Our goal is to fill that gap—offering a comprehensive, wraparound service that empowers social landlords to take confident steps toward a sustainable future.”
Government Support and Shared Goals
During her visit, Hannah Blythyn, MS for Delyn, praised the company’s innovative approach:
“It was inspiring to see the important work that Steven and the team at Cyd Innovation are doing. Tackling the climate crisis and the cost of living challenge requires practical, collective solutions that deliver economic, environmental, and social benefits.”
