Cyd Innovation’s Eco House Project With M-Sparc

Cyd Innovation has partnered with MSparc, Wales’ first dedicated Science Park, to support the development of students’ STEM skills across North Wales

This collaboration aligns two organisations, both committed to driving innovation and tackling the green skills gap.

In December 2024, Cyd Innovation provided £1,000 of funding to support MSparc’s award-winning Egni STEM program. The funding supported the creation of a physical ‘Eco-house’ model to accompany their Welsh-speaking STEM workshops.

The Eco-house project addressed a practical need. While students learned about renewable energy through model wind turbines and hydro pumps, they needed a resource that connected the technologies to their everyday lives.

Session Spotlight: Egni Workshop

The Egni workshop visited local schools, engaging students directly in the design process using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software to create their ideal Eco-house. Student ideas were incorporated into the final build, which was constructed by one of MSparc’s apprentices.

The ambitious scope of students’ ideas transformed the original Eco-house concept into an entire Eco-village!”

“I had never done CAD before, and it was great to see our model coming to life as part of the Eco Village.”

£1000 of Funding to Support MSparc’s Award-Winning Egni STEM Program

With a generous £1000 investment from Cyd Innovation, MSparc’s celebrated Egni STEM program was empowered to bring its dynamic educational experience to schools across North Wales. A simple mission: Ignite curiosity and creativity in young minds through hands-on learning. By integrating CAD software into the workshops, students were given the tools to design, build, and visualize their ideas. Done so through the physical creation of an Eco-house model, embodying their efforts and imagination. This initiative was about making learning tangible. The Eco-house was a perfect representation of real-world outcomes, encouraging critical thinking throughout the students, specifically within sustainability and innovation.

“The Eco House showed how our solar panels could actually work in real life; it turned the lights on!”

As of June 2025

By mid-2025, the Eco-house had already made its mark. Visiting seven schools and engaging with 189 students in a journey through renewable energy, retrofit solutions, and design skill development. The workshops championed active learning, moving students away from passive observation encouraging movement into the driver’s seat of discovery.

Through the Egni sessions, students didn’t just absorb knowledge, they built it. Exploring how energy works, the improved sustainability options for homes and how their own ideas could shape the future. The experience sparked imagination, boosted confidence, and planted seeds of innovation that will grow far beyond the classroom walls, advocating what Cyd Innovation really strive for within contributions in such initiatives… lasting social impact.

Lasting Social Impact For North Wales Communities

Students walked away with more than just knowledge. They gained practical skills, a deeper awareness of environmental challenges, and the confidence to see themselves as creators and problem-solvers.

The initial £1000 investment has blossomed into a long-term impact that goes far beyond numbers. It’s about genuine engagement, meaningful skill development, and the creation of a sustainable educational resource that continues to travel across North Wales. The Eco-house will only continue to inspire future STEM learners, and champion the Welsh language.
