What is your role as a Retrofit Coordinator at Cyd Innovation?
As a Retrofit Coordinator, my role is to oversee and manage the implementation of energy efficiency upgrades in buildings. I ensure compliance with building codes and standards, manage project timelines and budgets, coordinate with stakeholders, and promote sustainable retrofitting practices to achieve optimal environmental and economic outcomes.
What is your background and how did you get into retrofitting?
I have pursued several careers to date. I worked at Hotpoint until 2007, where I held the position of Team Leader. Following that, I managed my own pub before transitioning to Retail Management. Ultimately, I sought a more fulfilling challenging role that would allow me to test my abilities and contribute to environmental sustainability.
What attracted you to the company?
Cyd Innovation is a youthful company driven by ambitious ideas and goals that align closely with my own aspirations. Their mission involves assisting social housing projects in minimizing carbon emissions and enabling residents and homeowners to achieve cost savings.
What makes a good Retrofit Coordinator?
A good Retrofit Coordinator excels in technical knowledge, project management, and clear communication. They navigate building codes and energy standards adeptly, solve problems efficiently, and ensure projects meet timelines and budgets. Regulatory compliance and a commitment to sustainability are integral, ensuring effective and environmentally conscious retrofitting solutions.
What does a typical day involve?
A typical day involves reviewing project plans, coordinating with contractors and clients, ensuring compliance with regulations, and resolving any onsite issues. I monitor project progress, update stakeholders on milestones, and conduct site inspections to ensure quality and safety standards are met in energy efficiency retrofit projects
What projects are you currently working on
I have just finished the initial coordination of Phase 1 of “Your Housing Group,” a social housing project in the North West, encompassing 200 properties.
How have things gone so far?
Celebrating my 1-year anniversary with Cyd has been my best career decision. Improving buildings’ energy efficiency and sustainability allows me to create tangible impacts. I enjoy tackling challenges, collaborating with diverse stakeholders, and contributing to healthier environments for present and future generations.
What are you career aims and aspirations? Is there anything else in particular you’d like to achieve in your lifetime?
My career goal is to help lead in sustainable construction and energy efficiency, focusing on impactful projects that improve urban environments. Personally, I aim to promote environmental stewardship and inspire others towards sustainable living, aiming to make a meaningful difference in communities and globally.

To aspiring Retrofit Coordinators: Embrace continuous learning in building codes, energy efficiency, and project management. Develop strong communication and problem-solving skills. Stay updated with industry trends and regulations. Strive for excellence in sustainability and make a positive impact in transforming buildings to be more efficient and environmentally friendly.

Looking ahead, my main aim for the organization is to grow our sustainable retrofit projects. I want to focus on using innovative technologies and practices, building strong partnerships, and ensuring we continue delivering energy-efficient solutions that prioritize environmental stewardship and client satisfaction.
What are the main trends and opportunities in retrofitting?
In retrofitting, key trends include upgrading energy efficiency, integrating renewable energy like solar panels, adopting smart building technologies, and using sustainable materials. Opportunities lie in cost savings, meeting regulations, increasing property value, and supporting environmental goals through these improvements
